As many of you have already seen when you connected your iPod Touch to iTunes today, firmware 1.1.3 is now available. Unlike the upgrade from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 there are some noticeable differences from 1.1.2 to 1.1.3 that many will want to have.

First off and most noticeable is that the iPod Touch dock has been changed to exactly match the dock of the iPhone.

Second, as noted by Steve Jobs’ in his keynote address, 5 new apps for the iPod Touch: Mail, Stocks, Notes, Weather, and Maps.

The updated software will be available to existing users for a $20 upgrade fee. I know a lot of people are very upset about this. But if you have jailbroken your iPod you have had all of these for quite some time now free of charge.

The third cool feature is the ability to change the order of icons on your home screen. To do this all you have to do it click on an icon and hold down your finger until it begins to shake. Once it starts to shake you can drag it to wherever you want.

The last feature is the ability to bookmark webpages on your home screen. Once you have done this an icon from the webpage will appear on your home screen and you can access the webpage from it.

Now I know everyone is wondering “Can this new version be jailbroken”?

I can say with 99.9% certainty YES, but it may take a little time and may involve downgrading back to 1.1.1 and upgrading to 1.1.3. I think the new features will leave many wanting to jailbreak to 1.1.3, which is very different than 1.1.2 (I never even wasted time upgrading to 1.1.2 since there were no real differences).

Once a method is available I will post it here, so check back often!

** UPDATE ** I just found out that all the cool features above are only available if you pay the $20. If you do not pay and still upgrade to 1.1.3 you will not see any really differences, just some bug fixes. The one thing you do get is the iPhone dock.

Jailbreak 1.1.3 Status: COMPLETED – Waiting on SDK – A new file has been found in the Media folder of the iPod touch, this is the folder where the new apps are downloaded to. Some believe that this may eventually be hacked. It is unknown if this will have anything to deal with a future 1.1.3 Jailbreak.

Here are the file names:

Manifest.plist
Manifest.plist.p7b
nikita_receipt.plist
nikita_receipt.plist.sinf

Downgrade the phone to 1.1.2 then jailbreak it for normally using.

** UPDATE** 12 EST Jan. 19

JailBreak 1.1.3 is real
yes, thats’s real, done together by iphone dev team and elite team.
nobody plans to release it until Apple releases SDK.

The SDK is due to come out sometime in February, so it looks like we will have to wait until then to see the 1.1.3 Jailbreak.

That’s all I have for now, but at least it’s a start.
